Approximately 90% of applied tightening torque can be consumed overcoming friction, leaving only a small proportion to generate the bolt tension that holds a joint together. This friction-dependent relationship can result in bolt preload uncertainty of approximately ±25–30%, depending on the application and tightening conditions.

Unlike conventional bolting arrangements that require a separate tensioner to be positioned over the fastener, Technofast’s EziTite® Hydraulic Nuts and Bolts as well as our Bolt Tensioners are designed to remain permanently installed on the application.
The hydraulic mechanism is integrated into the fastener itself. When maintenance is required, hydraulic pressure is applied through a connection on the fastener to stretch the bolt or stud and achieve the required tension. A mechanical locking mechanism retains the load when the hydraulic pressure is released.
This integrated design can simplify maintenance procedures, reduce the need to repeatedly position and remove external tensioning equipment, and help minimise downtime, particularly in applications where access is restricted or maintenance is frequent.
