How do Hydraulic Nuts Work?
A hydraulic nut applies direct axial tension to a bolt using internal hydraulic pressure instead of traditional rotational torque. This advanced method entirely removes thread friction, providing an exceptionally accurate, repeatable, and safe bolt load across critical mechanical joints.
- Fit the Nut: Thread the hydraulic nut tensioner assembly onto the bolt or stud until it seats against the flange interface surface.
- Apply Pressure: Connect a high-pressure hydraulic pump to the tool to push the internal piston upward and stretch the bolt axially.
- Lock the Collar: Spin the integrated mechanical locking ring or collar down to lock the elongated bolt stretch firmly in place.
- Release the Pump: Vent the internal hydraulic fluid pressure, allowing the joint to carry the fully retained clamping load safely.
